New Hamrock body selected

This Years Hamrock Executive Commitee has been formed and has been working actively for the betterment of upcoming batches. This years agenda is to reverse the trend which has got impregnated into the student community that the jobs for earthsceintists are available at an eye's blink. M.Tech Applied Geology course revived

The very famous M.Tech. Applied Geology course of IIT Roorkee which was removed from the curriculum has been revived after much fight by honourable teachers of our department. However, the course has been renamed to M. Tech. in Geological Technology. The students in this course will join the 5 Year Integrated M.Tech. course students in third year of their 5 year program.

The total Department strength reached 200.

 With all new Integrated course batches the department total strength including Research Scholars has reached upto 200. Thanks to the new admission policy that after next 2-3 years when Integrated batches will hit the Industry along with the running Masters program students, the total strength of students sitting for placements at one time will 86. 

Gearing up for Geosynergy '10 

Like every other year this year also we are all set to launch another revived version of our series of Technical events aimed at giving exposure to our students to express their Technical, Communication skills and Creativity. This Technical bonanza gives platform to our students to compete with students of Geosciences around the country. Like every year the Hamrock Society at the department hopes for full cooperation from our seniors in fullfilling our endevour.

Plans for celebrating 50 yrs of Department history

50 Glorious years of excellence and service to the nation makes what every one knows to be Department Of Earthsciences, IIT Roorkee. To make a note of the department's acheivments and it's continued performance we have been planning to hold a series of workshops, Interactive Sessions with present and previous teachers, a massive alumni meet at the time of Geosynergy'10 (26-28th March). We have started with interactive Sessions with different Teachers of our department so that the current students may know about the Gems of the country who are teaching them and get inspired by their lives.The events like alumni meet are still on the table of Patron Hamrock Society Prof. P K Gupta. We are contemplating over the budget and other requirements to make that event happen.
