Presently our department is the leading Center of Teaching, Research and Consultancy in Earth Sciences in the country.

 

1. The number of Faculty Members in the department is 23.

2. The number of research Scholars is 49 in our department.

3. Total number of PG students is 122.

4. The campus placement has been steadily increasing 2007-2008-2009.

5. The No. of publications from faculty has gone up.

6. In last 5 years:

Total no. projects completed:              10

Total no. of new projects sanctioned:   15

Total no. of on going projects:             25

 

The number of research Projects running is 19 with a total amount of 678 lakhs being involved.

The number of consultancy projects is 6 with an amount of 55 lakhs being involved.

 

Major consultancy projects have been sponsored by NRSA, NHPC, NTPC, Reliance Energy Generation Ltd., Hindustan Oil Exploration Ltd., Uttranchal PWD, Garhwal Jal Sansthan, KMS Technologies (USA), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd. 

 

7. New Facility

  1. National Facility for Isotope Geology and Geochronology

    Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer (TIMS)

    Ultra-clean environment

    Sample Processing Laboratory

    Rb-Sr whole rock and mineral ages generated on rock samples from Himalaya and South India.

 

        2.   The Software PETREL installed in Department by Schlumberger Asia Services Pvt. Ltd.

 

7. Major Areas of Expertise:

         Himalayan Geology, Collision Tectonics and Geodynamics

         3D Modelling in Electromagnetism

         Structural Geology – Balanced  Cross-section Approach, Brittle Tectonics, Fluid  Inclusion Studies

         Petroleum Geosciences

         Engineering Geology and Geotechnical Investigations

         Numerical Modelling and Geophysical Inversion
